The question is, the protector could not anticipate this attack?, why ?.
The very fact that you are seeing the message is telling you that Protector IS doing its job. It has detected the URI spam and thus protected your site. Otherwise, you would not even know there was a URI attack. Your database "damage" could be related to the attack (rapid inserting and updating database could create problems to the database, but that has been a DOS attack). It is very unlikely that Protector has caused damage to your database. Before you draw any conculsion, you should check your web log to see what exactly happened on 17/2/2007 around 10:46:15.
Web sites can not "anticipate" attacks; they are sitting ducks. This is where Protector comes into the picture and protects sites. It is likely a sensor - it senses attacks and then disables the source of attack by not responding to the source.
