I had Protector 2.52 installed, but it seems like it didn't blocked this hack.

I'm sorry that you've gotta "cracked".
(Please don't call it "hack")
But you've misunderstood about Protector.
Protector protects some kind of attacks. not all.
If you use a vulnerable core (2.2.3
) or vulnerable modules (a lot!), Protector can't help it.
The most important factors for the security of XOOPS:
- use the secure core (2.0.13a-JP or 2.0.13.2 now)
- never use vulnerable modules (eg. WF-*)
- and use the latest Protector
