If you use GD, try "force GD2" mode.

And do you want size limitation in photo.php?
If so, you can modify by editing your custom template -myalbum_photo.html-.
To set width in <img> absolutely protects you from theme broken.

p.s. The module's name is not "myalbum" but "myAlbum-P".
The "-P" is same as the "WF-" of "WF-Sections".
