My hosting company has certain functions disabled as follows:

PHP Disabled Functions (Linux): All Posix functions disabled. Also, the following functions are disabled: fpassthru, file, mail, exec, system, passthru, popen, crack_check, crack_closedict,
crack_getlastmessage, crack_opendict, fsockopen, psockopen, opendir, readdir, closedir, phpinfo. They will not enable these functions.

Eventhough this is the case, they told me I could use CURL(Client URL Library) to get around this and retrieve news feeds.

Here's the link to PHP's site on this code:
PHP.net – CURL Reference
http://us2.php.net/manual/en/ref.curl.php

I'm a newb to php and xoops, and have no idea on how to implement this into the code to allow xhld to work properly.

I was wondering if you have run across this before, or if you know how to implement this into the xhld module? It would seem that more users have or will run into this same problem. This would be a great addition to the module to allow us unfortunate users the opportunity to use this excellent module.

Thanks so much in advance!!

Please Disregard the above post.

Apparently it is now working.

Maybe my host made corrections or I just input a link incorrectly.

Anyway, Great Module! Keeep up the good work!

Many thanks.

hi bAllZy

It sounds curious that the admins disallow fsockopen() on the other hand they allows "CURL".

Of course, I know CURL is a good way.
But I can't miss the function of fsockopen().

Hey GIJOE.

I agree. The problem seems to be resolved now though.

I don't know how my host is allowing me to receive feeds now.

I will have to research it. When I get an answer I'll post it for others.

I do have another question though.

What is the proper cache settings for xhld?

In the XOOPS preferences there are cache settings, and then there are cache settings for the XHLD in the module prefences.

Are we to use both? The Main XOOPs Cache and the XHLD Cache?

Thanks in advance.
