Second to my initial problem (outlined here ) would it be possible to do the following :

I am using the module to set up a system for lost and stray dogs. I have a huge listing of all the pedigrees (such as Doberman, Yorshire Terrier etc) and am in the process of inputting all of them as catergories beneath a parent catergory of 'Lost-Pedigree Dogs' and 'Found Pedigree Dogs'. So that the user will be able to add a picture of his or her lost dog to any of the pedigree catergories. Likewise, anyone who finds a dog can do the same.

So far, I am half way through inputting them for the 'Lost Pedigree Dogs' parent catergory. When it's done, I'll have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN for the 'Found Pedigree Dogs' parent catergory. My question is this : Is it possible to ask the module to duplicate the content of one parent catergory and insert it into the other parent catergory so that I don't have to input the extact same catergories all over again? If it isn't would any one be able to write a small script for me?

Thanks so much

hi tedsmith.

I know a site which has the same purpose.
megu -the admin of the site- uses myAlbum-P and piCal efficiently.

BTW, I think you'd better to install two myAlbum-Ps on your case.

eg)

modules/myalbum/
module name: lost dogs

modules/myalbum0/
module name: found dogs

You can copy and/or move any records from one myAlbum-P to another myAlbum-P using export/import in admin section.

okatti uses such feature efficiently.
It is a knack to make a category for transferring beforehand.

Thank you for that information. I have done what you recommended and created a second instance of the myalbum module, and renamed them accordingly (so I have one called 'Report a Lost Dog' and one called 'Report a Found Dog'.

In the second module I added a parent catergory of 'Found Dogs' and then tried the Export command from the original module (lost dogs). I am able to select the parent catergory that I want to export (i.e. Lost Dogs to Found Dogs)), but the drop-down menu that asks which module I want to export it to is empty, and I am unable to select the other myalbum module - in this case Report a Lost Dog.

So I tried it the other way round - I tried to import the catergories from the 'Lost Dog' module to the 'Found Dog' module. I selected the parent catergory hoping all the ones beneath it would be imported to, but it just imported the top catergory and left the rest behind.

To confirm, what I need is to be able to import\export THE CATERGORIES, not the actual content (because at this stage there is no content anyway!).

Any ideas?

hi tedsmith.

I don't see the point which you've stumbling.

You have to use IMPORT of the dest module instead of EXPORT of the src module.

You can select from MOVE or COPY by radio buttons.

I have 185 seperate catergories in my lost dogs module. I want to import ALL of them at the same time from that module to the found dogs module. I realise I can do it one catergory at a time but they will perhaps take as long as manually inputting them.

Does that make it clearer? Is there a way to do all of them at the same time, or shall I just do it one at a time?

When I made "import", I had a plan to add an option of "recursive".
I'm sorry that I forgot it.

To implement it is not so difficult.
And I added it to my TODO.
But I'm now too busy to code some programs.
