Hai GIJoe,

Thanks for the great protector module.
Loos very professional.

One question though: on behalf of XOOPS_URL/modules/protector/admin/rescue.php I made a password of 9 characters. When I reopen settings I see approx 23 black dots. That seems rather a long password, or are there 2.55 dots per character ??

Should I trust this, or can I still be shut out because my password don't work?

Thanks in advance and greetings,

Protector stores your password in hashed format.
Just try to access rescue.php by the password of 9 characters.

Try again from setting the password.
Don't edit hashed password directly.

What I did:
go to admin --> protector module --> settings, delete the password at the bottom, and click 'go'.
Then again entered settings, but the password was there again (I mean the 23 dashes).
Did the same again, AND updated module, with the same result.

What do you think?

Just set your password into the field.

Off course, I understand I have to type the pwd in the pwd field, but it says (en keeps saying) wrong password.
So:
1) I gave a password of 9 characters in settings
2) when I go to www.nvshv.nl/modules/protector/admin/rescue.php and type my pwd, it says wrong password
3) when I check settings, I see a lot of dots, instead of the 9 that were there initially
4) even uninstalling the module (which goes "succesfull"), and a fresh upload & install doesn't work: whe I want to type a password for 'the first time', the original many dots (not 9) are still there (apparently there stayed some remains in the DB after uninstalling the module)

I have uninstalled again and wait for your advice.
Luckily everything's working, so I'm not in a big hurry.

Thx in advance GIJoe, and sorry for troubling you.

Again, ignore 3).
This is normal. it's hashed password.

I cannot understand why 1) and 2) doesnot work fine.
I've never heard such a trouble.

I can ignore 3, but not when I can not access with my password, GIJoe.

What does it mean that you never heard of such trouble: that it can't happen, or that the cause is somewhere in my system or on my server?

Do you think its usefull and/or safe to use protector without the rescue password item?

Thx and greetz,

Do you know the meaning of rescue password?

Just disable auto-IP-ban.
You don't have to use "rescue".

If you want IP-ban, select the options of ".htaccess" instead.
